  • 20 years ago today Dragon Ball Z returned to Finland for the last time

September 18th was the day that SubTV announced the final batch of Dragon Ball Z episodes (the first three were episodes 1-57, 58-100 and 101-123) back in 2005.

This was exciting news for fans at the time as the channel had stopped airing any episodes of the show, including reruns since Christmas eve the year before.

With the exception of Battle of Gods earlier this year this was the last time any piece of content with the “Dragon Ball Z” branding was released in Finland, and when it comes to the TV series it was the last time to date.

Indeed when we asked on Reddit if any fans would like to see Dragon Ball Z return to Finland one expressed doubt that there would be any excitement for such happening, while another user wished for recordings of the show on SubTV to turn up.

While the aforementioned press release is no longer on SubTV (now MTVSub)’s website fans luckily quoted it on a local forum:

The above can be translated as:

    “DRAGONBALL Z RETURNS TO SUB!

The super-popular anime series Dragonball Z continues on Subtv on Sun 18.9.PRESS

    RELEASE 31.8.05

Subtv will make the wish of anime fans come true in September! The Japanese anime series Dragonball Z continues on Subtv on Sunday 18 September at 10:00. The series is always seen on Sundays at the same time.

Subtv has acquired 168 new episodes for the series. The episodes are spoken in English and subtitled in Finnish. Dragonball Z went on hiatus on Sub last Christmas Eve and the series now continues straight from there: it’s time for season 4 episode 124 (Unwelcome Discovery). The central role of Dragonball Z is played by Goku, who fights against the evil forces of space with his friends. What will Bulma, Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, Krillin and co. come up with to tame the androids while Goku is still in bad shape?”

  • A section to learn about your dub no matter what it is

So this website is still in its infancy and I’m making some huge plans.

In addition to reporting on as many international airings, streams, home releases and whatever else of the Dragon Ball franchise I have added a section to document all the dubs this series has ever had, both legal and illegal productions, the latter of which I don’t endorse but it’s important to acknowledge they exist.

For now anyone who wants to know who is who in the French, German, European Spanish dubs or in the case of illegit dubs the post-Kohavision Albanian dub (ironically the dub more fans remember) you can read all about them here.

My good friends in the Dragon Ball Dubs community do a wonderful job and service to all these dubs, learning cast members, recording, preserving and syncing them, so anything I learn from them I will be sure to share it here.

As of now please check out the Dubs page, as I plan to update it regularly by adding another page to a dub listed there, so if you don’t see “your dub” there, don’t worry it will be listed soon.

  • Hello to all, new blog

If you have been a regular reader of the Kanzenshuu forums for many years or have been in some Discord servers you will know my internet name. Please be sure to check out my main site, especially if you are based in the UK and Ireland.

I have been a Dragon Ball fan most of my life and I love researching the franchise in any country, particularly my own, but for this blog I intend to document the various dubs and broadcasts from around the world as this franchise continues to flourish.

It’s been a global phenomenon for much of my 33 years and I expect it to continue to do so.

Kami bless you Akira Toriyama, your franchise has brought a lot of people together, maybe that’s because you only had one goal – to entertain people. RIP to the legend, thank you for everything.
