It is official, Dragon Ball Daima, the latest instalment in the long running Dragon Ball anime series, and the last work of late creator Akira Toriyama is coming to TV.
Mediawan Thematics-owned channel Mangas has just announced the new anime series will be coming to their channel October 15th at 10:50pm.

Mangas has a long history with the franchise. The original Dragon Ball aired on a previous incarnation of the channel named AB Cartoons in 1996, Mangas itself featured the French premier of Dragon Ball GT (the previous series would debut on TF1’s Club Dorothée block) and the channel still broadcasts the older series from time to time.
France was also notably the second international territory to receive the anime after Hong Kong in 1989 and as such generations of fans have grown up with Dragon Ball and still love it to this day.

Thanks to the reliable Spanish Dragon Ball expert and Derek Padula’s translator Antonio Kaytos for reporting on this, a new edition of the manga is coming, and it is a gorgeous piece for collectors.
Each volume will cover a different story arc in addition to being the same size as Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and containing more pages than the tankoubon and kanzenban releases.
The Legends release of the manga will feature as part of the novelties during the Barcelona Manga Fair and three boxes are expected to be released over the run of this new manga edition.
It’s been a whole decade since the CW’s animated programming block Vortexx shut down and Funimation’s edited dub of Dragon Ball Kai was last seen in the US.
Kai then received new episodes from April 13th and a double bill followed starting May 18th until the week of August 10th, and then the week after for the remainder of the run it was a single timeslot at 10am each week.
Saban’s Kidsco Media Ventures LCC bought Toonzai and rebranded it after the splitting of 4Kids’ assets between themselves and Konami’s 4K Acquisition Corp.
As Dragon Ball Community pointed out on Twitter while Toonzai marked the CW premier of the Saiyan and Freeza arcs, Vortexx was the first (and only time) the channel aired the Cell arc, and less episodes were aired over time on Vortexx because it was a Saturday morning block only. Nonetheless the channel aired a large number of episodes, so it was a massive success.
On the Toonzone forums a number of views were expressed over the fall of Vortexx with some regarding its end as the greatest mistake of the animation medium and others acknowledging that even without many other streaming services it was at a disadvantage in the TV landscape of its time.
The end of Vortexx marked a cultural shift of Dragon Ball on US TV, as only a few weeks after the block closed Dragon Ball Kai began airing on Adult Swim’s Toonami block, which was where Dragon Ball Kai: The Final Chapters and Dragon Ball Super premiered in the country.
To this day Dragon Ball has not returned to kids TV in the US, despite the monumental success it had 20-25 years ago on Toonami. It remains to be seen whether or not it will.
Nonetheless as we can see from this Kanzenshuu thread there are indeed fans who not only grew up watching Dragon Ball Kai on the CW but also have fond memories of it:
In any case whether or not Vortexx was in the wrong place at the wrong time we can be grateful that it introduced more kids to Dragon Ball, which is all we can ask for at the end of the day.
TOEI continues to ramp up the releases for Dragon Ball Daima across Europe.
Following on from the announcements of France and Germany on the ADN streaming service as well as Italy, now Spain joins that list of European countries, which will have a legal means of watching Daima.
Selecta Vision has announced the series will be coming to their streaming platform Anime Box on October 11th, meaning Spanish fans can enjoy the series the same date it premiers on Fuji TV in Japan.
Like the other aforementioned European countries, no dub is announced as of yet, but it should be expected to arrive within the next couple of months.
Italian fans who have been waiting for Dragon Ball Daima to be licensed out to them don’t have much longer to wait, as it is now confirmed the series will debut in November.
Much like Tokyo Big Sight in Dragon Ball’s native country of Japan, Italian fans of the series will have a chance to get a glimpse of Daima before the remainder of the series, although instead of the first episode it will be the first 3 episodes that premier similar the US.
However no Italian dub is set for release, as of this point, but that can be expected at a later stage, as all the Dragon Ball series thus far, with the exception of Kai (which was ruled out because it was a recut of Dragon Ball Z) have been dubbed in Italian.
The first of 7 volumes, which contains episodes 1-17 will contain 3 discs in a digipack, art cards, and an episode guide.

As the recently announced theatrical dubbed screenings for the first 3 episodes of Dragon Ball Daima in the US approach, a trailer has just been released to give fans a sample of what they can expect.
Stephanie Nadolny, the voice of kid Goku in Funimation’s inhouse dub of the original Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT as well as the movies Sleeping Princess in Devil’s Castle and Mystical Adventure will be reprising her role as the character for the first time in 15 years.

Dragon Ball Daima will receive its English language premier in the United States on November 10th for a 3-day theatrical run, courtesy of Fathom Events and Crunchyroll.
Expect further releases of Daima with the English dub down the road on other platforms like Crunchyroll’s streaming service, home video, possibly TV and more.
Dragon Ball fans around the world do not have much longer to wait for the new series, indeed many will have the fortune of seeing it the exact same date as Japan thanks to Crunchyroll’s near global simulcast.
Strangely though, while Crunchyroll streams Dragon Ball in a number of European territories that was the one continent not included in this simulcast.
Nonetheless it does seem slowly but surely announcements are being made for Europe.
Now ADN has announced they will be streaming Akira Toriyama’s final work in Germany.
This is great news for German fans, who had to wait 6 years and 2 years for Dragon Ball Kai and Dragon Ball Super to be licensed out to them. That means this will be the quickest they have ever received a new Dragon Ball anime series.
Coincidentally RTL II began rerunning original Dragon Ball between Marchand August of last year, but it was removed a month after the rerun concluded. It was a great chance for new fans to become accustomed to kid Goku.
Should there be any updates on other European territories we will of course report on them.
While it was previously unclear how many episodes of Daima would be screened, it is now known – it will be the first 3 episodes of the series.
Moreover, Masako Nozawa, the legendary Japanese voice actor who has played Goku and the rest of the Son family in every iteration of the series since 1986 will give a special introduction.
Naturally, because these screenings will be dubbed there has been confusionamongst fans, as no subbed screenings have been announced, despite the fact they would serve the same audience who would want to hear comments from a Japanese voice actor.
Whether or not there will be subbed screenings remains to be seen, it would certainly make a lot more sense if this message was simply intended for all screenings and theatres have leaked the information about dubbed screenings first to generate more interest in buying tickets, as Dragon Ball’s English dubs remain popular.
Recently theatrical listings have been spotted for the upcoming TV anime Dragon Ball Daima, suggesting the first 2 or 3 episodes will be coming to the United States on November 10, 2024.
Indeed this will be the first time any of the episodes of the series have been screened at US cinemas since Bardock : The Father of Goku is a TV special that is not part of the 291-episode anime (Dragon Ball Z) it aired with on Fuji TV. The special has been mismarketed as a movie, but it is effectively a special extended episode of the series.
Nonetheless the Dragon Ball Daima screenings are the first of its kind for the US, which has never had any of the standard TV episodes shown in theatres.
It certainly demonstrates confidence. Expect an Akira Toriyama memorial, as Dragon Ball Daima is his last known work.
