  • Dragon Ball Super: Beerus simulcast comes to Mangas in France

    French fans will soon be able to experience Dragon Ball Super: Beerus not long after the episodes premier in Japan.

    Starting October 13th a new episode will be simulcast every Tuesday at 11pm on the Mediawan Thematics-owned channel Mangas, just two days after the Fuji TV debuts.

    This is not the only exciting news for Dragon Ball fans in France, as it has been just announced that Dragon Ball Daima will air on the channel Gulli, likely with a French dub.

    A French dub of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is not known to be in production, but it could very well happen at some point as all the Dragon Ball TV series up to Daima (which again is likely to follow suit) have been dubbed in the language.

    A subbed airing is not unexpected however, as Dragon Ball Daima received a simulcast on Mangas, the channel also regularly airs Dragon Ball content with the most recent being a rerun of Dragon Ball GT.

    Mediawan Thematics is the owner of AB Groupe, which have a long history with the Dragon Ball franchise in France dating back to March 2, 1988 when the original series first aired on TF1’s Club Dorothée block.

    A French dub of Dragon Ball Daima and local simulcast of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will no doubt be the start of an exciting new chapter in the history of Dragon Ball in France.

     

  • Mike McFarland passes away at the age of 56

    Another Dragon Ball voice actor has lost the battle to cancer.

    Mike McFarland, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer that originates as a growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord, has passed away at the age of 56.

    Best known by Dragon Ball fans as the voice of Master Roshi and Yajirobe, Mike McFarland has had a long standing career in the anime industry.

    McFarland’s work extends beyond Dragon Ball to other characters like Buggy the Clown in One Piece, Carnage Kabuto in One-Punch Man, Jean Kirstein in Attack on Titan, Kotaro Amon in Tokyo Ghoul, The Ancient Magus’ Bride as well as Jean Havoc in Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

    Additionally McFarland has not only done voice work but also ADR, scriptwriting and producing.

    ADR credits include other anime like One Piece, Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man, the Funimation redub of Dragon Ball Z seasons 1-2 (also for ADR script), Fullmetal Alchemist (27 episodes and 50 episodes of Brotherhood), Tokyo Ghoul, the Evangelion rebuilds and many more.

    Script duties included, but are not limited to Mob Psycho 100, Kodocha, Hellsing Ultimate, ODDTAXI, The Seven Deadly Sins, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki.

  • Dragon Ball Super: Beerus coming to Prime Video in Japan

    It has just been announced that the latest anime series in the long running Dragon Ball franchise, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be coming to Amazon Prime in Japan on October 12th, the day after it premiers on Fuji TV.

    The previous series Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Kai were added to the platform on June 15th this year and Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Daima were added at some point prior to that. Additionally all the movies up to Resurrection ‘F’ were put on the platform since at least July 27, 2018.

    It has not been announced which territories will receive Dragon Ball Super: Beerus on streaming internationally, but it is likely that it will be seen on many services throughout the world, just as Dragon Ball Daima was on both Crunchyroll and Netflix.

  • Dragon Ball Daima expected to air on French channel Gulli

    The European dubs of the latest TV anime in the long running Dragon Ball series – Dragon Ball Daima keep coming.

    To the surprise of fans online a French dub was missing in action, but it appears that is about to change.

    According to French free-to-air channel Gulli,Dragon Ball Daima will be coming to the channel soon.

    No debut date has been announced, but it is expected that the series will air with a French dub.

    This was confirmed by the channel on their X (formerly Twitter) account:

  • Fans report recasts as first episode of Dragon Ball Daima Italian dub now available on Mediaset Infinity

    The first episode of the Dragon Ball Daima Italian dub is now available as an exclusive preview on the Mediaset Infinity streaming platform.

    A fan named Venixys on X (formerly known as Twitter) has reported on the lack of censorship and the change of cast.

    As such it means that the censoring of Mr Popo may have been a decision made by the producers of the German dub rather than a TOEI Europe mandate.

    The TV premier of the Italian dub of Dragon Ball Daima will follow on Italia 2 beginning September 14th, only two days after the debut of the Castilian Spanish dub.

     

  • 30th anniversary of Funimation’s English dub of Dragon Ball Z coming up

    In one of Kanzenshuu’s features they analysed the evidence surrounding the debut date for Dragon Ball Z in North America in 1996, which has many caveats to say the least.

    Unlike the UK where we can definitively say Funimation’s dub of Dragon Ball Z premiered on March 6, 2000 on Cartoon Network or Finland where it was January 15, 2003 on SubTV the US is a completely different ballgame since the show did not premier on a mainstream channel, but instead it was smaller regional networks.

    Long story short, it depended on the state, and while the formal, widespread premier was on the weekend of September 14th-15th there were smaller, more niche weekday sneak peaks for the weekdays of September 12th and 13th, although anecdotal evidence suggests there may have been an earlier weekend sneak peak on September 7, 1996.

    Take this blurb from the September 14-20, 1996 issue of TV Guide in the Kids Programming Fall Preview:

    In only one known instance does a fan online suggest that this September 7th debut happened:

    There are no known newspaper listings that confirm Dragon Ball Z was premiered on any channel this date, that is not to say it didn’t happen, as TV schedules can sometimes be ambiguous, a TV block can be listed but not the programmes, in the case of syndicate networks the schedules might list “Local Programming”, which according to a fan on the Kanzenshuu forums can be anything from sitcom reruns to church broadcasts to bootlegs of a pay per view wrestling event.

    So it is possible, although it may never be known for sure whether or not Funimation’s English dub of Dragon Ball Z first aired in North America on September 7, 1996, but nonetheless the week up to September 14th did include sneak peaks, as Kanzenshuu’s article highlights.

    In any case this week celebratory threads and articles can be expected, just as was the case for the 20th anniversary of this dub in North America on both forums and websites.

  • Premier date set for Dragon Ball Daima on Italia 2

    Dragon Ball Daima on Italia 2 from September 14 with two episodes every Monday in prime time

    It has been a long road for the Dragon Ball Daima Italian dub, but nearly two years after the series debut across the world there is finally a premier date.

    Dragon Ball Daima is set to debut on Italia 2 from September 14, 2026 and it will air with two episodes every Monday and a repeat on Tuesday nights.

    The Monday night premiers will begin at 9:50pm with the reruns taking place around midnight on Tuesdays.

    For those who can’t watch the premiers or reruns the episodes will also become available on the Mediaset Infinity streaming platform the day after broadcast.

    Dragon Ball Daima was previously available to Italians in subbed format at the Lucca Comics and Games convention and on Anime Generation, but now fans in Italy will have a way of watching the series in their native language.

    The dub, which was hinted at by Starbright president and announced for September will finally be released.

  • TOEI deny granting license for Dragon Ball theme park in France

    In the last two weeks there have been reports that a Dragon Ball theme park would be constructed near Paris in France, although, according to the anime’s license holder no such license has been granted.

    The above can be translated as:

    “Some reports have reported that “a Dragon Ball theme park has been decided to be built in France,” but neither our company (Toei Animation Co., Ltd., Head Office: Nakano-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Katsuhiro Takagi) nor the relevant rights holders have granted any license for this project, and we are not aware of any facts.
    Furthermore, all concept images and videos of the theme park used in these reports were used at the time of the joint announcement by Saudi Arabia’s Qiddiya Investment Company and our company on March 22, 2024, concerning the theme park planned for construction in Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia. These images and videos have no relation whatsoever to the reported content.”

    The story received international attention during Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit with an announcement from the Élysée palace that France and Saudi Arabia agreed a €6 billion package of three theme parks at Cergy-Pontoise, northwest of Paris, on the old Mirapolis site. It is worth noting a memorandum of understanding was signed that day, not a building permit.

    A park is still said to be in the works, but inspired by the world of manga more generally and may not specifically be related to Dragon Ball.

    It may be because of France’s long standing love for the franchise and the fact that Dragon Ball images were used to promote the project that there was a misunderstanding.

    Recent reports of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and French President Emmanuel Macron ending a news conference with the iconic Kamehameha pose may have also fuelled speculation, but as things stand the planned park may not be a Dragon Ball park necessarily.

  • Dragon Ball Super Beerus to premier on Fuji TV October 11th

    A premier date has been announced for the enhanced version of Dragon Ball Super.

    The new TV anime Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will premier on October 11th, the same day as Dragon Ball Daima premiered in 2024.

    The first episode will however have a sneak peak on October 8th at New York City Comic Con.

    In keeping with tradition the new TOEI anime will air on Fuji TV, albeit at a later timeslot than the 2015 version of Dragon Ball Super did.

    Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will air at 11:15pm on Fuji TV.

    Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT all aired at 7pm Wednesdays on the same channel, but Dragon Ball Kai and Dragon Ball Super aired at the earlier 9am timeslot, although Dragon Ball Daima premiered at 11:40pm.

    Norihito Sumitomo will be returning as the composer.

    As “Broadcasting and Streaming” is in the promo it seems likely that much like Dragon Ball Daima, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be distributed to several different streaming services around the world subtitled, no dubs have been confirmed as of this point.

    The official announcement describing the project stated:

    “The project features extensive new cuts, revisions to existing scenes, a complete re-rendering of all footage, newly recorded dubbing with added score and sound effects, and a full reconstruction of the story. Living up to the name ENHANCED, this edition employs the latest visual expression to deliver greater power and immersion across all scenes, especially the battle sequences. The result is an ENHANCED edition that expresses Akira Toriyama‘s original idea and worldbuilding more accurately, that will be broadcasted with highly satisfying quality.”

    In relation to the story of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus the staff stated the following:

    “Several years have passed since the fierce battle against Majin Buu, and Earth has finally regained a brief moment of peace. At the same time, Beerus, the God of Destruction, awakens from his long, deep sleep. Even Kai and Supreme Kai, aware of Beerus’s overwhelming power to destroy entire planets, watch his awakening with great fear… Meanwhile, Beerus hears rumors of a Saiyan who defeated Frieza—and suddenly appears before Goku.Targeted by Beerus, the strongest being in the universe, Earth is in grave danger. Thus begins an Earth-shattering cosmic battle between the God of Destruction and Goku and his allies—a conflict that will shake the entire universe.”

    Other staff members confirmed for Dragon Ball Super Beerus will include:

    • Matsuto Seya on Composition and Direction Arrangement
    • Tadayoshi Yamamuro for Animation Character Design & General Animation Director
    • Eichi Nishimura as editor
    • Yōsuke Motoki will be the Compositing Director

    The first promotional art indicated that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus would only be covering the Battle of Gods story arc, but this new promo confirms that the Resurrection F and Universe 6 arcs will also be adapted.

     

  • Castilian Spanish dub of Dragon Ball Daima to premier on September 12th

    Over a year ago Spanish Dragon Ball fans were expressing their desire for a dub of Dragon Ball Daima in their region on X (formerly known as Twitter), particularly a dub from Dasara Producciones.

    Dasara Producciones previously provided the Castilian Spanish dub for both Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Kai, which fans were satisfied with, so naturally there has been a desire for them to record more content.

    Sometime later RTVE director José Pablo López was asked about Dragon Ball Daima airing on the Clan network, and expressed interest in licensing it.

    Dragon Ball Daima has been available in Spain subbed on AnimeBox, Crunchyroll and Netflix but not yet in the native language.

    By the end of 2025 however it was announced at Manga Barcelona during the Selecta Vision conference that a Spanish dub would indeed be coming in 2026.

    More recently it was stated that Dragon Ball Daima would be airing on Clan very soon, but no debut date was confirmed, until now.

    In yesterday’s RTVE press release it was confirmed that Dragon Ball Daima would begin the following Saturday (September 12th) at 7:25pm.

    Under “New Releases” the press release says:

    “La energía de los fines de semana corre a cargo de Goku y compañía en ‘Dragon Ball DAIMA’. Una aventura inédita llena de sorpresas, artes marciales y ese humor inconfundible que une a generaciones enteras frente a la pantalla. Se podrá ver a partir del sábado 12 de septiembre a las 19:25 h.”

    In English this can be translated as:

    “The energy of the weekends is provided by Goku and company in ‘Dragon Ball DAIMA’. An unprecedented adventure full of surprises, martial arts and that unmistakable humor that unites entire generations in front of the screen. It can be seen from Saturday, September 12 at 7:25 p.m.”
